That Second Thought
A spontaneous poem
This melody can only exist in heaven;
In the world of men, how often can one hear it?
- Zen Capping Phrase
Good day! I would like to share a spontaneous poem that sprouted from me a few days ago while in a spiritual bath (I’ll write soon about spiritual baths, what they look like and how to give yourself one.) Anyway, sometimes it is nice to simply find a rhythm and let the mind meander in playful prose without trying too hard to develop a sophisticated rhymescheme or multilayered meanings. I enjoyed the process so much that I recorded the musings that were flowing from me and then transcribed them.
In this writing you will find the raw uploaded audio (you may hear dripping water in the background) and the transcription of what was happily flowing from me.
Maybe this simple writing will inspire you to write some poetry today, or maybe find some time to relax, bathe, muse, play, and/or laugh!
I hope you enjoy!
With love and gratitude,
Awe
Note: I recorded 3 audios of different poems. This is the first one. I will upload the other two after I transcribe them.
With the mind serene, one sees the cliffs and trees so much better;
With the room silent, the flowering spring sounds even more quiet.

That Second Thought
Of who is the owner of that second thought the one where I say “go!” and another says “stop.” the one where a child wants to be free and roam the one where the adult comes in after she comes home Who is it that breathes, “is that a good idea?” down my neck the one who is always searching for something else not to wreck the one who is about preserving and growing where is the one that did all of the knowing? The destruction, the fate the things that have no end the gravity besides me too needs to bend upend all of the reality in front of me the rebel, the caustic he who brings these things through the storm the gnostic the anti-theist the one without an anti-thesis the one who simply is and is enjoying the one that has no stories controlling the one that moves past all the histories pass it please, drop to your knees and rejoice that you are living here now which is the one that wants to roll on the ground the one that wants to do cartwheels and somersaults and all of the feels when your chest fills and your eyes no longer see names of colors what is it that comes between you and your mother? what is the one that suckles on the teat and how is it different from the one inside of me? now I see without myself yearning And without my own mind machinations turning this heart of mine is churning, burning and a flame without wax, a candle purely wick all light all of that and more the one that is up in the sky like the sun its not for me to question why but to run and to frolic and to jump and dance the one who is here, maybe not with ants in their pants but with excitement to share there, there, don’t worry about disrupting your hair what? hair? I can’t even see. unless there’s a mirror right beside me the one that looks at me that one with a smile why did I think that it’s taken such a while for him to come around and not be the one judging I am here on my own free loving. I am the one that gets to decide how to play I am the one that gets to jump up and say, “horray!” and why wouldn’t I? Especially when I see you in my eyes apricot hues and lilac strewn across mountain ridges and all the bridges that I want to walk across the bridges that I want to build and some that I think could be tossed we can go ahead and leave those out there for a while if I want to go, and not have a smile, I can pretend like the movie that I’m in that I can go down a deep, dark, twisted path and then I begin again with just the rhythm and the song and the light in my heart I know you want to sing along So why wouldn’t you? And why don’t I move? get yourself within your new groove or out of the old it doesn’t really matter as long as you feel like you’re gold as long as you’re moving try not to scold yourself with someone else’s voice it is in fact your choice. Decide how to live and decide how and when you’ll die within that loving husk of you shed it and come new. flowers sprout from seeds and that’s all I really need Is just a dream and something to believe That fragrance and flower and these other things that seem to shower my well-being in love and purpose and play.
